Bec Brittain founded her studio in Brooklyn in 2011, designing and producing the critically-acclaimed SHY light. All her designs are made in New York, using a variety of techniques and a network of local fabricators and artisans, and every piece is assembled by hand in the studio under Bec’s supervision. SHY creates form with lines of light; thin LED tubes, with their spare beauty, define the edges of its shape. Thus, the function of the piece and its form are inseparable, and the ethereal quality of the LEDs is balanced by the warmth of brass. SHY’s modular hardware lends itself to a myriad of configurations, both standard and custom, producing new shapes according to what a space demands.
